Jailer: An effective Java-based data export and extraction utility

Databases are essential in the business environment as they allow companies and organizations to manage their resources and transactions effectively. Jailer is a lightweight Java-based tool designed to extract and export data from databases as well as remove obsolete entries.

The program runs on any platform as long as it includes Java Runtime Environment, and no setup is required. You can launch the executable from your local hard drive but also from a removable storage device.

Several database sample models are bundled within the app – these are available for educational purposes, so new users can quickly learn how Jailer works. In the ‘Connect’ panel, you can easily create a new data model, which includes information regarding database tables and their associations. You can set the app to automatically recover information from these tables using the ‘Analyze Database’ function.

The database management system (DBMS) to be used can be selected from an included list, and you also have to complete a form with information regarding your alias, user and password, JDBC Driver JAR, secondary JAR, DB-URL and Driver-Class. All of this data is required for creating a new database connections, and once you filled in all the information, you can view all tables and associations stored in the database.

With Jailer you can optimize your database performance-wise, as the application lets you easily remove and archive obsolete information. This is performed while maintaining the integrity of the tables and associations. The program also allows you to quickly extract even small subsets of data from the production database, to keep your working environment updated.
