memoQ: Straightforward translation software that speeds up and improves your translations

memoQ is an application offering a robust set of translation features, making it perfect for professionals that handle several projects on a daily basis but also suitable for occasional users and beginners.

The tabbed interface was designed to be extremely easy to navigate and its capabilities are sorted in tabs such as Translations, LiveDocs, Translation Memories and Term Bases among others. Also, from the Dashboard you can quickly jump to the Frequent Tasks tab. At the bottom of the main window, your current projects are displayed accompanied by information such as their completion level, creation date, translation deadline and used languages.

Creating a project is an extremely simple task, thanks to the built-in wizard where you can quickly give it a name, set the source and target languages as well as fill in the client and subject. You can also connect your project to a content source, record the version history of the translated files and make a Language Terminal entry.

To continue, you’ll have to import the documents you want to translate. In this department, the application offers extensive support for a large number of formats, from common ones like DOC, TXT, PDF, DOC, PPT and RTF to formats such as BAK, TTX, MBD and XLF among others.

You’ll also have to create a new ‘Translation Memory’ or import one from a CSV or TMX file. In the same way, you can create a ‘Term Base’ or use an existing one from a TBX file.

During the translation process, the application shows the text in segments, specifically full sentences. It lets you either merge or split these segments and available equivalents are offered for words that exist in the Term Base. When the translation is finalized, you can export the text in a number of bilingual formats.
