Nagstamon: A convenient solution for monitoring your hosts and services

Nagstamon is a straightforward utility capable of connecting to multiple Nagios-based monitoring servers, offering real-time information regarding their status. The program supports various types of servers, including Thruk, Opsview, Nagios, Centreon and Icinga.

The tool offers a floating icon as its graphical layout, which displays a status summary with full details becoming available when you over the mouse over it. You can easily reposition the status bar on your desktop so it doesn’t interfere with other opened programs or windows.

Users can setup the application in various ways. For example, the pinging interval can be changed, and the visual aspect as well as the behavior of the floating icon can be customized. However, Nagstamon offers other options you can tweak, such as selecting the data types the reports should include.

You can filter out several types of information such as down or unreachable host, services on hosts in maintenance and unknown services, but you can also create advanced rule sets using regular expressions.

Furthermore, the program’s settings menu offers the possibility to customize incoming notifications for different event types such as critical, warning or down, thus you can setup a different sound for each event but also enable visual alerts such as making the status bar flash.
