Scanner for Remote Desktop is a useful tool that lets you share your scanner over then network and aquire images during your remote desktop session. The program bundles a workstation component and a server component that make it possible to share the scanner.

You need to install the workstation on your local machine, and the server component has to be installed on the computer(s) you want to remotely connect. The scanner hardware has to be connected to the local computer so the remote computer can detect it when the remote session is started.

The application cannot replace the dedicated protocols required to establish remote desktop connections. As a result, your network computers need to have several programs installed and properly configured for the remote desktop session to be enabled.

An interesting feature of the application is its ability to isolate the scanner from other users that are remotely connected to the same machine, and at the same moment. It also supports various models of scanner devices from several brands which can be either TWAIN or WIA.cIt also supports a number of photo editors, and if such a tool is installed on the remote machine, it lets you acquire the scanned images.

The server component offers a number of settings you can customize, like the ability to select the image compression mode (no compression, lossy or lossless) and an option to use the default scanner device name.
